chihiro-onigiri-round-rug-studio-ghibli-chair-mat
Chihiro Onigiri Round Rug - Studio Ghibli Chair Mat

Chihiro stands at the center of this Studio Ghibli round rug, holding an onigiri rice ball in both hands while hydrangeas, glowing lanterns and paper cranes climb the vines around her. The artwork is laid out for the circle from edge to edge, with a crimson medallion field inside a deep green border where four No-Face masks mark the compass points.

A round shape suits a picture like this, because your eye travels around it the way it would around a storybook page. Beside a bed it softens the hard corners of a square room. Under a desk, the border frames your feet. Small change, big mood.

The Design: A Spirit World Carpet

Instead of placing Chihiro on a plain backdrop, the artist wove her into an ornamental carpet pattern, with golden scrollwork growing from the border into the central field. She wears her pink-red work clothes with the sash tied at the waist and a purple hair tie, and she looks calm, almost shy, as she holds the rice ball that carries so much of the story's warmth.

The palette is oxblood red, forest green and warm gold, cooled by clusters of hydrangea blue and the pale cream of the masks. Around the outer ring you find old coins, paper charms, onigiri in scalloped frames and orange lanterns. Nearly every motif nods to the film, so fans keep spotting something new. If you are building a collection, you can browse other Studio Ghibli rugs and see how this one sits beside them.

Chihiro on the Floor

The surface is a soft plush low pile that feels gentle under bare feet and keeps the printed detail crisp. Dye-sublimation printing sets the colors into the fibers, so the deep reds and fine gold linework stay part of the rug instead of sitting on top like a sticker. A non-slip rubber backing grips hard floors, even when a chair rolls across it. When spills happen, the rug is machine washable on a gentle cold cycle, then air-dried.

Slide a desk chair over it and it works as a chair mat with far more personality than clear plastic. As a bedroom rug it gives you a warm red landing spot in the morning. The larger sizes work as a round area rug under a reading chair. Smaller ones make a lively accent rug beside a bed or a sofa. The rug also lies flat over low-pile carpet.

Sizes & Rug Level

Six diameters are available, from 80 cm (31.5″) to 180 cm (70.9″): 80, 100, 120, 140, 160 and 180 cm. The 80 and 100 cm sizes fit under a desk chair or beside a bed, and they keep Chihiro's face easy to see. Choose 120 or 140 cm for a reading nook or a kids' corner, where the ring of masks and lanterns has room to breathe. At 160 or 180 cm the rug becomes the center of a seating area, and the whole carpet pattern reads like a piece of art on the floor.

Two levels are offered. Standart Level is solid everyday quality for daily use. Premium Level adds a thicker, plusher pile and a more durable backing for high-traffic rooms.

Quick Questions

Is it machine washable?

Yes. Wash it on a gentle cold cycle and let it air-dry, and the red and green stay rich because the dye is set into the fibers.

Does it slip on hard floors?

No. The rubber backing grips wood, tile and laminate, so the circle stays put under a rolling chair or a running kid.

Can I put it over carpet?

Yes, it lies flat over low-pile carpet. Chihiro and her border stay crisp and tidy there.

Which size should I choose?

Pick 80 to 100 cm if you want a desk or bedside piece, and 120 to 140 cm for a nook where the whole border is on show. Go to 160 or 180 cm when the rug should anchor a room.

A Chihiro Fan Statement

Fans who grew up with Spirited Away and want a quiet piece of the bathhouse world beside the bed.

A reading nook or kids' corner, where a 120 or 140 cm circle becomes a cozy island for books and cushions.

A desk setup, where a matching Studio Ghibli mouse pad finishes the look.

A gift for an anime lover, who can also wander through the wider anime rug range for companions.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0945/8830/5694/files/chihiro-onigiri-round-rug-studio-ghibli-chair-mat-3.webp?v=1792776600
