Frequently Asked Questions

The rug should extend at least 18-24 inches beyond each side of the bed:

Bed SizeMinimum RugIdeal Rug
Twin (38"×75")5' × 7'6' × 9'
Full (54"×75")6' × 9'8' × 10'
Queen (60"×80")8' × 10'9' × 12'
King (76"×80")9' × 12'9' × 12'+

Position the rug under the bottom two-thirds of the bed, extending beyond the foot and sides.

Yes! The runner approach is a popular bedroom alternative. Place matching runners (2' × 6' or 2' × 8') on each side of the bed for soft landing spots when you wake up. This works well in smaller rooms where a large rug would feel overwhelming.

Our plush-style fabric rugs offer the softest, most luxurious feel—perfect for bare feet first thing in the morning. The dense polyester pile creates cloud-like softness while maintaining durability. For ultimate bedroom comfort, choose this plush option over the glossy fabric style.

On low-pile carpet, our synthetic leather backing provides good grip. On plush or high-pile carpet, you may want to add a rug-to-carpet gripper pad for extra stability. The weight of your bed and furniture helps anchor the rug in place.

Center the rug under your bed, extending equally on both sides. Nightstands can sit partially on the rug or completely off—consistency is key. For rooms with additional seating, ensure the rug is large enough to include those pieces. Leave 6-12 inches between rug edge and dressers or walls.

For restful bedrooms, consider soft neutrals (warm whites, beiges, soft grays), cool blues and greens (known to promote relaxation), or muted earth tones (terracotta, sage). Avoid overly bright or high-contrast patterns that may feel energizing rather than calming.

About This Collection

Bedroom Rugs

Bedroom rugs are the first thing your feet meet in the morning and the last thing they touch before you climb into bed, so they deserve as much thought as your mattress or bedding. Our collection gathers more than 170 printed designs for that private space: dreamy Japanese landscapes, romantic hearts and celestial lovers, tarot cards, gothic florals, classic rock crests and a set of shaped Pokémon rugs that kids and teens love to have beside the bed. Each bedroom rug is printed to order, so it is produced for you rather than waiting in a stockroom.

Most designs come in five rectangular sizes, from a 2 x 3 ft bedside rug to a 5 x 7 ft rug that slides under the lower part of the bed. You can choose the Standard Level, a lightweight 5 mm rug with a shiny velvet surface, or the Premium Level, a softer and cushioned 7 mm plush that feels warm under bare feet. Both have a non-slip backing that keeps the rug from creeping when you step on it half asleep. Read on for a tour of the designs, exact placement advice for beside and under the bed, and the details on care and delivery.

What You'll Find in Our Bedroom Rugs

A bedroom can be calm, romantic, moody or playful, and the collection is organized loosely along those lines. Here is where to start, depending on the mood you want to wake up to.

Shaped Pokémon Rugs for Kids and Teens

The most playful corner of the collection is a group of shaped rugs cut to the outline of the character instead of a rectangle. The Snorlax Rug is a big, sleepy companion for a bedroom floor, the Squirtle Rug and the Sitting Piplup Rug bring cool blues to a kid's room, and the Jigglypuff Trio Rug and the Smiling Ditto Rug add soft pink and lavender tones. Placed beside a bed, a shaped rug reads like a character waiting to greet you in the morning. The collection also includes designs inspired by Kirby and Lilo & Stitch, and you can find more character work in our anime and manga rugs.

Calm Landscapes for a Restful Room

If you want your bedroom to feel like a retreat, choose a design with open space and a soft palette. The Mount Fuji Cherry Blossom Rug pairs pale pink petals with a snowcapped peak, the Mountain Temple Mist Rug fades into layers of fog, and the Golden Bamboo Grove Rug works like a watercolor in warm greens and gold. The Harbor Sunrise Rug captures early light on the water in loose impressionist strokes, and the Koi Yin-Yang Pond Rug and the Sapphire Koi Pond Rug bring the stillness of a garden pond to the side of the bed.

Romantic and Valentine's Designs

A couple's bedroom is a natural home for these designs, and they make thoughtful anniversary or Valentine's gifts. The Sun & Moon Lovers Rug shows two celestial faces meeting in the middle, the Rose & Peony Heart Rug arranges flowers into a heart, and the Love Letter Wax Seal Rug has a vintage, handwritten feel. The Heart Lock & Key Rug and the Celtic Love Knot Heart Rug are smaller in scale and look lovely at the foot of the bed.

Celestial, Tarot and Mystic Bedrooms

Witchy and celestial décor has become a bedroom favorite, and these designs fit right in with string lights, crystals and dark bedding. Choose The Sun Tarot Card Rug for warm golds, The Hermit Tarot Card Rug for a quiet lantern-lit figure, or the Death Tarot Card Rug for a bolder statement. The Hamsa Hand Evil Eye Rug adds a protective symbol beside the door, the Raven & Moonlight Rug brings a literary, gothic night sky, and the Astronaut Helmet Galaxy Rug suits a space-obsessed kid or teen.

Dark Romance and Gothic Florals

If your idea of cozy involves black walls and velvet, start here. The Skeleton Hands & Roses Rug and the Memento Mori Lace Hand Rug mix bone and lace with blooming roses, while the Bleeding Heart Flower Rug and the Fritillary Bell Rug place delicate flowers on dark grounds. The Life and Death Embrace Rug combines gold-leaf pattern with a darker theme, and for those who want to go further, the Ram Skull Altar Rug and the Black Goat Red Eyes Rug lean fully into occult style.

Art Prints and Garden Patterns

For a bedroom that feels collected and grown-up, the art designs act like a painting laid on the floor. The Pearl Earring Portrait Rug and the Golden Muse Rug bring portraiture, the Great Wave Rug adds a strong graphic in blue and cream, and the Wisteria Phoenix Rug and the Chrysanthemum Bloom Rug feel at home with floral bedding. Garden lovers can choose the Strawberry Thief Garden Rug, the Rose Trellis Songbird Rug or the Orchard Harvest Rug, all of which echo the patterned wallpapers of an English cottage.

Music and Modern Designs for Teen Rooms and Dorms

Teen bedrooms and dorm rooms tend to be loud in the best way. More than 20 music designs cover classic rock, heavy metal, punk and post-punk, from a psychedelic rainbow prism and ornate band-style crests to a minimal pattern of stacked white waveforms on black that looks sharp above a plain gray duvet. For a cleaner look, the Primary Grid Rug and the Art Deco Tessellation Rug offer bold geometry that pairs well with simple bedding and a desk setup.

How to Choose a Bedroom Rug

In the bedroom, a rug has three jobs: give your feet a soft, warm landing, frame the bed so the room looks finished, and set the mood you want at the end of the day. The guidance below uses real bed dimensions and the sizes we actually offer, so you can plan with confidence.

Under the Bed: The Lower Two-Thirds Method

Designers often run a large rug under the whole bed and nightstands, but that full-coverage look needs an 8 x 10 ft rug or larger for a queen. With our sizes, the method that works is placing the rug crosswise under the lower part of the bed. Turn a 5 x 7 ft rug so the 7 ft side runs across the bed, slide it under until it stops a little before the nightstands, and let the rest extend past the foot of the bed. That way you still step onto the rug on either side, and the bed looks anchored rather than floating.

Here is how much rug shows on each side with a 5 x 7 ft rug laid crosswise, which is 84 inches wide:

  • Twin bed (about 38 in wide): roughly 23 inches of rug on each side, a generous border for a kid's room.
  • Full bed (about 54 in wide): roughly 15 inches on each side, enough to step onto comfortably.
  • Queen bed (about 60 in wide): roughly 12 inches on each side, a tidy frame in a medium bedroom.
  • King bed (about 76 in wide): only a few inches on each side, so bedside rugs are the better choice.

For a twin bed in a smaller room, a 4 x 6 ft rug laid the same way leaves about 17 inches on each side and keeps more of the floor open for play.

Beside the Bed: One Rug or a Matching Pair

Bedside rugs are the easiest way to add warmth, and they work with any bed size, including a king. Place one on each side of the bed, or just on the side you get out of, with the long edge running parallel to the bed. Line the top edge up roughly with the front of the nightstand so your feet land in the middle of the rug when you swing out of bed, and tuck the inner edge a few inches under the bed frame to help it stay in position.

  • Twin or full bed: a 2 x 3 ft rug on each side is usually enough.
  • Queen or king bed: a 2.6 x 3.9 ft rug runs further along the side and feels more balanced next to a larger mattress.
  • Tight spaces: measure the gap between the bed and the wall or dresser first, and pick a rug a few inches narrower than that gap so it lies flat without bunching.

If you would rather have one long, narrow strip along the side of the bed, our runner rugs page covers that format. A third option is the foot of the bed: a 2.6 x 3.9 ft or 3.3 x 5 ft rug laid crosswise in front of a bench or blanket chest gives the room a finished look without moving any furniture.

Colors, Patterns and the View From the Bed

Because you look at a bedroom rug from the bed as much as from the door, orientation matters with printed artwork. For a bedside rug, turn the design so it reads the right way up when you sit on the edge of the mattress. For a rug at the foot of the bed, orient it so you see it upright when you sit up against the headboard.

For sleep-friendly color, pick up a shade from your bedding or curtains rather than introducing a completely new color. Soft landscapes like the Mount Fuji Cherry Blossom Rug suit pale linens, while gothic florals and tarot designs look richest against charcoal, deep green or burgundy bedding. If your sheets and duvet are already patterned, choose a rug with a calmer composition; if your bedding is plain, a bold print beside the bed adds personality without overwhelming the room.

Kids' Rooms, Teens and Dorms

In a child's room, the rug is also the play area, so the cushioned 7 mm Premium Level is the comfortable choice for building, reading and lying on the floor. Our inks are non-toxic and skin-safe, which makes the rugs suitable for nurseries and playrooms too; browse our kids and nursery rugs for more ideas. A 4 x 6 ft or 5 x 7 ft rug in the middle of the floor creates a play zone, while a shaped Pokémon rug beside the bed adds a playful accent.

Teen bedrooms and dorms often combine sleeping and studying in one room. If there is a rolling desk chair, use a Standard Level rug under the desk, because the wheels roll smoothly over the velvet surface, and keep a Premium rug beside the bed for comfort. Dorm floors are often tile or vinyl, and the non-slip backing grips both.

Bedroom Rug Sizes

The standard rectangular designs come in five sizes. Use the table together with the bed measurements above.

Size (ft) Size (cm) Best for
2 x 3 ft 60 x 90 cm Bedside rug for a twin or full bed, in front of a dresser
2.6 x 3.9 ft 80 x 120 cm Bedside rug for a queen or king, under a desk chair
3.3 x 5 ft 100 x 150 cm Foot of the bed, reading corner, small play area
4 x 6 ft 120 x 180 cm Under the lower part of a twin bed, dorm rooms
5 x 7 ft 150 x 214 cm Crosswise under a full or queen bed, main kids' room rug

In short: beside the bed, think 2 x 3 ft for smaller beds and 2.6 x 3.9 ft for larger ones. Under the bed, a 5 x 7 ft rug laid crosswise suits twin, full and queen beds, while a 4 x 6 ft rug suits a twin in a compact room. At a bedroom desk, choose 2.6 x 3.9 ft or larger so the chair wheels stay on the rug when you roll back. Around the edges of the room, try to keep at least 12 inches of bare floor so the space feels open.

The shaped rugs in this collection, including the Pokémon designs, are cut to the outline of the artwork and come in four sizes. Because some shapes are wider and others closer to square, exact dimensions vary by design and are listed on each product page. Across the collection they range from about 70 x 90 cm (2.3 x 3 ft) up to 160 x 180 cm (5.2 x 5.9 ft). You can see more of this style in our shaped rugs collection.

Standard vs Premium Bedroom Rugs

Every design is offered in two quality levels. They share the same print process and both have a non-slip backing; what changes is the thickness and feel.

  • Standard Level: a lightweight 5 mm rug with a shiny velvet surface that shows color and fine detail clearly. It has a faux leather non-slip backing and is the recommended choice under a desk chair, since the wheels roll smoothly across it.
  • Premium Level: a softer, cushioned 7 mm rug with a plush surface that feels warm and comfortable underfoot. It has a natural cotton anti-slip backing and is made for bedrooms, living rooms and kids' rooms.

For most bedrooms, Premium is the natural pick beside or under the bed, where you walk barefoot. Choose Standard where a desk chair rolls or when you want the sharpest possible print on a detailed portrait or botanical design.

Printing, Materials and Safety

The designs are printed with HD sublimation, which bonds the ink into the fibers rather than coating the surface, so the artwork won't crack or peel. UV-resistant inks hold up to normal daylight from a bedroom window, though it is best to avoid long hours of strong direct sun. Reinforced stitched edges resist fraying and curling, so the rug stays flat where your feet land every morning. The non-slip backing works on hardwood, laminate, tile, vinyl, concrete and low-pile carpet. The inks are non-toxic and skin-safe, which is why the rugs suit nurseries, playrooms and kids' bedrooms. They are made for indoor use only.

Caring for Your Bedroom Rug

  • Vacuum on a low setting or shake the rug out to remove dust and lint.
  • Blot spills with a damp cloth as soon as you notice them; don't rub.
  • Hand wash with cold water and a mild detergent when needed, then air dry flat.
  • Skip bleach, harsh chemicals and tumble drying, and never iron the printed side.
  • Rotate the rug every so often so it wears and fades evenly.
  • The rug arrives folded; any creases relax within a few days of lying flat.

Shipping and Returns

All rugs are made to order. Most orders are produced in 1 to 3 business days and arrive within 5 to 12 days depending on where you live, and tracking details are sent by email. Since each rug is printed for your order, returns are accepted within 14 days for shipping damage or a defect, but not for a change of mind.

Bedroom Rug FAQ

What size rug goes under a queen bed?

With our sizes, lay a 5 x 7 ft rug crosswise under the lower part of the bed. It leaves roughly 12 inches of rug on each side of a queen and extends past the foot of the bed. For a king, bedside rugs on each side work better.

How should I place a rug beside the bed?

Run the long edge parallel to the bed, line the top edge up with the front of the nightstand and tuck the inner edge slightly under the frame. A 2 x 3 ft rug suits a twin or full bed and a 2.6 x 3.9 ft rug suits a queen or king.

Is Standard or Premium better for a bedroom?

Premium is the softer, cushioned option and the usual choice for bedrooms. Standard is better under a desk chair or when you want the crispest print detail.

Are the rugs safe for a child's bedroom or nursery?

Yes. The inks are non-toxic and skin-safe, and the non-slip backing keeps the rug from sliding when kids run or play on it.

Will a bedroom rug slip on a wooden floor?

No. Both levels have an anti-slip backing that grips hardwood, laminate, tile, vinyl, concrete and low-pile carpet, so the rug stays in place when you step on it first thing in the morning.

Can I wash a bedroom rug?

Yes, by hand. Hand wash with cold water and a mild detergent and let it air dry flat. For small spills, blotting with a damp cloth is usually enough. Avoid bleach and tumble drying.

Are these official Pokémon or band rugs?

No. These are original fan-inspired designs created by Padloom and printed on our own rugs, with no affiliation to any franchise, band, artist or studio.
