Frequently Asked Questions
Our shaped rug collection features creative silhouettes: irregular/organic shapes, character cutouts inspired by pop culture, geometric alternatives (hexagons, octagons), and custom silhouettes for specific design needs. Sizes vary by design—check individual product pages.
Shaped rugs are statement pieces that work best: in kids' rooms and playrooms (fun character shapes), as conversation-starting accent pieces, in creative spaces and studios, beneath unique furniture arrangements, in corners where standard shapes don't fit, and as wall art. They're for when "normal" just won't do.
Our shaped rugs use the same durable materials as our standard rugs—they're built for real use, not just decoration. They're machine washable, non-slip, and made with quality polyester pile. The unique shapes don't affect functionality.
Yes! Our custom rug service can create unique silhouettes based on your design. Send us your shape concept—whether it's a logo, character, abstract form, or specific irregular shape—and we'll work with you to bring it to life. Contact us for quotes.
Shaped rugs list their maximum dimensions (length × width of the bounding box). Use these measurements as you would a standard rug, keeping in mind the actual coverage will vary. Lay out painter's tape in approximate shape and size to visualize placement before ordering.
The same non-slip backing covers all our shaped rugs, providing secure grip regardless of silhouette. Ensure the rug lies completely flat. On very smooth floors, a cut-to-fit rug pad matching the shape can add extra security for uniquely shaped rugs.
Shaped Rugs
Shaped rugs are rugs cut to the outline of their artwork instead of a rectangle, so a Charizard keeps its wings, a mushroom keeps its round cap and a skull keeps its jaw. Every design in this collection is an irregular shaped rug: the edge follows the character, object or symbol printed on it, which makes it read less like a floor covering and more like a cutout sticker placed on your floor.
The collection holds more than 270 designs, from Pokémon and anime characters to retro game icons, streetwear-inspired objects, gothic skulls and gentle animals for kids' rooms. Each rug is made to order in four sizes that range from about 2 x 3 ft (60 x 90 cm) for the smallest pieces up to about 5.2 x 5.9 ft (160 x 180 cm) for wide shapes, or up to 3.9 x 8.5 ft (120 x 260 cm) for the tallest silhouettes. You can choose a lightweight Standard rug with a shiny velvet surface or a softer, cushioned Premium plush, and both come with a non-slip backing.
This guide walks you through what is in the collection, how to choose and place a shaped rug so it looks intentional, how the sizes work for irregular outlines, and how to look after your rug once it arrives.
What You'll Find in Our Shaped Rugs Collection
Because the outline is part of the design, shaped rugs work best with subjects that have a strong silhouette: a character with a clear pose, an object you would recognize from its outline alone, or a symbol with a bold edge. That is why the collection leans heavily toward characters and icons.
Pokémon Shaped Rugs
Pokémon is the largest group, with more than 90 designs, and most of them are drawn in a specific pose so the cut edge tells a little story. Starter fans can choose the Standing Charmander Rug, the Bulbasaur Rug, the Squirtle Rug or the Squirtle Squad Rug, and the Leaf Chikorita Rug and Sitting Piplup Rug suit a softer bedroom look. Eevee and its evolutions appear in the Standing Eevee Rug, the Leaf-Tail Leafeon Rug and the Sitting Glaceon Rug.
Legendary and pseudo-legendary Pokémon make the most dramatic shapes, because wings and tails give the outline real reach. Look at the Flying Lugia Rug, the Winged Giratina Rug, the Winged Articuno Rug, the Gliding Kyogre Rug, the Striding Suicune Rug, the Battle Deoxy Rug, the Roaring Salamence Rug and the Dragonite Rug. Heavyweights such as the Crouching Metagross Rug, the Crouching Swampert Rug, the Roaring Feraligatr Rug and the Crossed Arms Blaziken Rug fill a game room floor, while the Lounging Slowpoke Rug, the Sleeping Shaymin Rug and the Snorlax Rug are relaxed, rounded shapes for a reading corner.
Charizard fans get several takes: the Orange Charizard Rug, the Game Boy Charizard Rug and the Charizard Skeleton Rug, a skeletal take with a darker mood. Retro collectors will also like the Pikachu Gameboy Rug, and ghost and poison types show up in the Purple Gengar Rug, the Koffing Rug and the Alert Absol Rug.
Anime and Manga Shaped Rugs
Beyond Pokémon, the anime designs include the Naruto Rug, the Akatsuki Cloud Rug, the Berserk Rug for darker fantasy fans and the Digimon Evolution Rug. Mecha fans have the Sensor RX-78-2 Rug, a Gundam design that keeps the mobile suit's angular outline. In total, more than 100 shaped designs come from anime and manga, so this is where to look if you want a character to lie across your floor rather than sit in a frame.
Gaming and Cartoon Shaped Rugs
For a game room, the Super Mario Mushroom Rug and the Super Mario Rug bring bright Mushroom Kingdom color, the Gamer Kirby Rug is a pink round crowd-pleaser, and the Sly Cooper Rug and the Gamer Hand Rug add a nostalgic touch. The Venom Rug and the Grogu Coffee Rug pull in characters from the wider pop culture world. Cartoon fans can choose the SpongeBob Rug, the Gravity Falls Rug or the Zombie Rick Morty Rug for a slightly unhinged accent beside the couch.
Streetwear-Inspired Shaped Rugs
More than 80 designs take their cue from streetwear and sneaker culture, and they are among the most popular choices for a man cave, a closet or a sneaker display wall. Shapes such as the Cash Shoebox Rug, the Money Bag Rug, the Graffiti Stop Sign Rug and the Cherry Bomb Rug work like oversized stickers on the floor, while the Eye Lips Rug, the Pink Ski Mask Rug, the Asian Tiger Rug and the Colorful Statement Rug bring bolder pop art energy. These are original streetwear-inspired designs, made to sit alongside a collection rather than imitate one.
Gothic and Horror Shaped Rugs
Skulls and horror icons have clean, recognizable edges, which makes them ideal for an irregular shaped rug. The Rose Skull Rug and the Thermal Skull Rug lean into tattoo-style art, the Coffin Skeleton Rug is a natural fit for a gothic bedroom, and horror movie fans can pick the Scream Rug or the Pink Ghostface Rug, a pastel twist on a slasher classic.
Kids' Room, Animal and Floral Shapes
For nurseries and children's rooms, the shapes are softer and friendlier. The Cute Giraffe Rug, the Fox Rug and the Tiger Rug bring animal outlines to a play area, the Astronaut Rug suits a space-themed room, and the Sun Rug adds a warm, cheerful shape beside a crib. For a calmer bedroom, the Pink Daisy Rug is a simple floral shape that works with almost any color scheme.
How to Choose and Place a Shaped Rug
A rectangular rug follows the lines of a room; a shaped rug interrupts them on purpose. That is what makes it fun, and it is also why placement matters more than with a standard area rug. These tips will help your irregular shaped rug look like a deliberate design choice rather than something dropped on the floor.
Give the Outline Space to Breathe
The silhouette is the point of a shaped rug, so do not hide it. Keep furniture off the edges wherever you can, and avoid pushing the rug hard against a wall or tucking it under a bed where half the shape disappears. A good rule is to place it where you can see the whole outline from the doorway: beside a bed, in front of a gaming setup, in the middle of a play area or in an open stretch of floor between furniture.
Use It as an Accent, Not the Main Rug
In a living room, a shaped rug rarely replaces the main area rug under the sofa. Instead, it works as an accent: in front of an armchair, at the foot of a bed, beside a console cabinet or in a reading nook. If you already have a plain, low-pile rug anchoring the room, you can layer a smaller shaped rug on top. The neutral base frames the outline and makes the colors pop, much like a mat around a framed print.
Match the Shape to the Room's Mood
Think about the feeling of the room before you think about the character. Rounded, sleepy shapes like Snorlax, Slowpoke or Kirby feel cozy in a bedroom. Winged legendaries and roaring dragons have energy and suit a game room or a teenager's space. Streetwear objects and skulls work in a man cave, a dorm or a closet, and the animal shapes are natural picks for a nursery. Then pick one or two colors from the design that already appear in the room, such as a bedding color, a wall accent or your LED lighting, so the rug ties in rather than floats.
Kids, Pets and Everyday Traffic
Shaped rugs are a favorite in children's rooms because kids treat them as part of play: a giraffe to sit on, a sun to land on, a Pokémon to stand beside. The non-slip backing helps keep the rug in place when children run across it, and the reinforced stitched edges are especially useful on a shaped rug, which has more edge than a rectangle of the same size. If you have pets that like to dig at corners, a compact shape with fewer thin points will hold up to attention better than one with long, narrow tails or wing tips.
Under a Desk or Gaming Chair
Many of these designs are made with game rooms in mind, and the Standard level is our recommended choice under a desk chair on hard floors because the wheels roll smoothly over its flatter surface. With a shaped rug, choose a size large enough that the solid body of the design, not just a tail, ear or wing, sits under the area where your chair rolls. If you need a large, uninterrupted rolling area, a rectangular rug is the more practical choice, and the shaped rug can sit beside your setup as an accent.
Shaped Rug Size Guide
Every shaped rug comes in four sizes. Because each design is cut to its own outline, the exact proportions vary from rug to rug: a sitting character is often close to square, while a standing figure or a tall object is narrower and longer. Each size describes the overall width and height of the shape, and the exact dimensions for every size are listed on each product page. The table below shows the most common size families in the collection.
| Shape profile | Smallest size | Largest size | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Square | 2.6 x 2.6 ft (80 x 80 cm) | 5.2 x 5.2 ft (160 x 160 cm) | Round and compact characters, center of a play area |
| Near-square | 2.6 x 3 ft (80 x 90 cm) | 5.2 x 5.9 ft (160 x 180 cm) | Sitting or crouching poses, game rooms, beside a bed |
| Classic portrait | 2 x 3 ft (60 x 90 cm) | 4 x 6 ft (120 x 180 cm) | Standing characters, objects, bedroom accents |
| Tall | 2 x 3.3 ft (60 x 100 cm) | 3.9 x 6.6 ft (120 x 200 cm) | Full-body figures, along the side of a bed |
| Extra tall | 2 x 4.3 ft (60 x 130 cm) | 3.9 x 8.5 ft (120 x 260 cm) | Long silhouettes, open floor, statement pieces |
A few designs use in-between proportions, but every shaped rug in the collection falls within the overall range of about 2 x 3 ft (60 x 90 cm) or 2.6 x 2.6 ft (80 x 80 cm) at the smallest, up to 5.2 x 5.9 ft (160 x 180 cm) for wide shapes or 3.9 x 8.5 ft (120 x 260 cm) for the tallest ones.
Beside a bed: the smallest or second size, roughly 2 to 3 ft across, gives you a soft spot to step onto in the morning without crowding the nightstand. A tall shape can run along the length of a single bed.
In front of a sofa or armchair: choose a size a little narrower than the seat so the outline is framed by the furniture. You can slide the shaped rug just under the front legs of an armchair if you like, as long as the main silhouette stays visible.
Under a desk chair: go for the third or fourth size so the solid body of the shape covers the rolling zone, and choose the Standard level on hard floors.
As a centerpiece: the largest size of a square or near-square design works as the main feature in a game room or kids' play area. As with any area rug, leaving about 18 to 24 inches of bare floor between the rug and the walls keeps the room from feeling crowded and lets the shape stand out.
Standard vs Premium Shaped Rugs
Every design is available in two quality levels. Both are printed and cut the same way and both have a non-slip backing; the difference is thickness and feel.
- Standard Level: a lightweight 5 mm rug with a shiny velvet surface that makes colors and fine line work stand out, which suits detailed character art. It has a faux leather non-slip backing and is the recommended choice under a desk chair, because chair wheels roll smoothly over its flatter surface.
- Premium Level: a softer, cushioned 7 mm rug with a plush surface that feels good under bare feet and for kids who sit and play on the floor. It has a natural cotton anti-slip backing and is our suggestion for bedrooms, living rooms, kids' rooms and nurseries.
Printing, Materials and Safety
Each rug is printed with HD sublimation, which bonds the ink into the fibers rather than leaving it on the surface, so the artwork does not crack or peel, even along the curves of a cut outline. The inks are UV-resistant to cope with normal daylight, though long periods of strong direct sun are still best avoided. Every edge is reinforced with stitching that resists fraying and curling, which matters on shaped rugs where the edge follows tight curves, points and corners.
The non-slip backing works on hardwood, laminate, tile, vinyl, concrete and low-pile carpet. The inks are non-toxic and skin-safe, so these rugs are suitable for nurseries and playrooms. All of our rugs are made for indoor use only.
Caring for Your Shaped Rug
- Vacuum on a low setting, working along the outline rather than against it, or simply shake the rug out.
- Blot spills right away with a damp cloth instead of rubbing them into the fibers.
- For a deeper clean, hand wash with cold water and a mild detergent, then let the rug air dry flat so the shape keeps its form.
- Do not use bleach or harsh chemicals, do not tumble dry, and do not iron the printed surface.
- Rotate the rug occasionally so wear is spread evenly.
- Your rug ships folded; lay it flat and the creases will relax within a few days.
Shipping and Returns
Every shaped rug is made to order. Most orders are produced within 1 to 3 business days and delivered within 5 to 12 days depending on your location, with tracking sent by email. Because each rug is printed and cut specifically for your order, we accept returns within 14 days for shipping damage or a defect on our side, but not for a change of mind. Check the exact dimensions on the product page before you order.
Shaped Rugs FAQ
What is an irregular shaped rug?
An irregular shaped rug is any rug that is not a standard rectangle, square, circle or oval. Ours are cut to follow the outline of the printed artwork, so the edge of the rug is the edge of the character or object.
How are shaped rug sizes measured?
Each size gives the overall width and height of the shape. Every design comes in four sizes, and the exact dimensions for each one are listed on its product page.
Are these official franchise rugs?
No. These are original fan-inspired designs created by Padloom and printed on our own rugs. They are not made or endorsed by any game company, studio, artist or brand.
Will a shaped rug slip or curl at the edges?
Both quality levels have a non-slip backing that grips hard floors and low-pile carpet, and every rug has reinforced stitched edges that resist curling and fraying, including around curves and points.
Can I put a shaped rug under a gaming chair?
Yes, on hard floors. Choose the Standard level and a size where the main body of the shape covers the area your chair rolls over. For a large rolling area, a rectangular rug is more practical.
Can I wash a shaped rug?
Yes, by hand only. Hand wash with cold water and mild detergent and air dry flat. Avoid tumble drying, bleach and ironing.
Which quality is best for a kids' room?
Premium is the softer, cushioned option for children who play on the floor, and the inks on both levels are non-toxic and skin-safe.
