Takashi Murakami Rugs

A Murakami rug covers your floor in rows of smiling, rainbow-petaled flowers, melting cartoon faces and pop-art color. These are original Padloom designs inspired by the superflat pop-art style associated with Takashi Murakami, not products made, sold or endorsed by Takashi Murakami. The collection holds 17 designs: 14 rectangular rugs printed in five sizes from 2 x 3 ft to 5 x 7 ft, and three shaped flower rugs cut to the outline of the artwork.

Each Takashi Murakami rug is made to order in your choice of a Standard version with a shiny velvet surface or a Premium version with a thicker, cushioned plush, and both have a non-slip backing. This guide covers every design, the sizes for both the rectangular and the shaped rugs, the difference between the two quality levels and how to style such a colorful piece without overwhelming a room.

Murakami Rug Designs in the Collection

Almost every design starts from the same motif: a flat, cartoon flower with a smiling face at its center, repeated, scaled or melted into new forms. What changes from rug to rug is the color, the layout and whether the flowers sit on their own, inside a Persian-style frame or alongside streetwear graphics.

Shaped Murakami Flower Rugs

The three shaped rugs are the most eye-catching pieces in the range, because the edge of the rug follows the petals instead of a straight line. The Rainbow Murakami Flower Rug keeps the full multicolor petals, the Black Murakami Flower Rug turns the same outline into a darker, more graphic piece, and the Brown Murakami Flower Rug uses warm earthy tones that blend easily with wood floors and leather furniture. A shaped flower works like a piece of art laid on the floor, so it suits an open spot in a bedroom, a living room or the center of a game room.

Rectangular Murakami Flower Rugs

If you prefer a classic rectangle, the Takashi Murakami Flower Rug fills the surface with the smiling flower motif in bright pop colors. The Midnight Aqua Murakami Flower Rug shifts the palette to deep blue and aqua for a calmer, night-sky mood, and the Monochrome Murakami Flower Rug strips the color back to black, white and gray. That monochrome version is a smart choice if your room already has a lot going on but you still want the flower shapes.

Melting and Psychedelic Designs

Some designs push the cartoon style into trippy territory. The Psychedelic Murakami Melting Flower Rug lets the flowers drip and stretch in swirling color, and the Murakami Melted Flower Utopia Rug turns the melting effect into a dreamlike, utopian composition. The Trippy Melting DOB Rug swaps the flower for a wide-eyed, round-eared cartoon face that melts into psychedelic shapes. These three bring the most energy of any designs here and look their best in a game room or studio with colored lighting. Fans of collectible cartoon-figure art may also like our Kaws rugs.

Persian-Style Murakami Rugs

Five designs blend the pop flowers with the medallions, borders and corner details of a traditional Persian rug, so the piece reads as heritage decor from across the room and reveals its cartoon faces up close. The Murakami Persian Floral Rug and the Murakami Flower Persian Rug set the flowers into an ornate frame, the Murakami Teal Persian Rug works in cool teal tones, and the Takashi Murakami Persian Rug completes the set with its own take on the classic layout. The Mr DOB Persian Mashup Rug places the round-eared cartoon character inside the same Persian framing. These are the easiest designs to fit into a living room with traditional furniture.

Streetwear Mashups

Three more designs mix the flowers with streetwear graphics. One pairs the smiling flowers with a bold red box-logo graphic, and two others set them against a monogram-style pattern. They are a good match for a sneaker room or a hypebeast bedroom where other streetwear pieces are already on display. If that crossover is your style, our A Bathing Ape - BAPE rugs offer more of it.

Takashi Murakami Rug Sizes

The 14 rectangular designs come in five sizes:

Shaped Flower Rug Sizes

The three shaped flower rugs are cut to the outline of the artwork and come in four sizes. Because the flower outline is as wide as it is tall, the sizes are square: 2.6 x 2.6 ft (80 x 80 cm), 3.4 x 3.4 ft (105 x 105 cm), 4.4 x 4.4 ft (135 x 135 cm) and 5.2 x 5.2 ft (160 x 160 cm). The exact measurements are listed on each product page. The petals take up the full width, so measure the open floor area rather than the space between furniture legs.

For any rug, leave about 18 to 24 inches of visible floor around the edges so the design has room to breathe. Under a desk chair, choose a rectangular rug large enough that all the wheels stay on it when you roll back, usually 2.6 x 3.9 ft or larger.

Standard vs Premium: Comparing the Two Qualities

Both quality levels carry the same print and both have a non-slip backing. The difference is in how they feel and where they work best.

• Standard Level: a lightweight 5 mm rug with a shiny velvet surface that shows color and detail, which brings out the many small faces and bright petals in these designs. It has a faux leather non-slip backing and is the recommended choice under a desk chair, since the wheels roll smoothly.
• Premium Level: a softer, cushioned 7 mm rug with a plush surface for comfort underfoot. It has a natural cotton anti-slip backing and suits bedrooms, living rooms and kids' rooms.

Murakami Rug Ideas for Every Room

Superflat-style art is loud by nature, so the trick is to let the rug be the main color in the room and keep the surroundings simple.

Living Room

A 5 x 7 ft Persian-style design anchors a sofa area and reads as classic decor until guests look closer. If your walls and furniture are neutral, the Rainbow Murakami Flower Rug in a large shaped size makes a strong centerpiece on its own. More sofa-sized ideas live among our living room rugs.

Bedroom and Kids' Room

Smiling flowers are a natural fit for children's spaces. A Premium shaped flower beside the bed gives kids a soft spot to sit and play, and the inks are non-toxic and skin-safe, which is why many customers also use these rugs in nurseries and playrooms. For an adult bedroom, the Midnight Aqua or Monochrome designs are quieter options.

Game Room and Streaming Setup

The melting and psychedelic designs pair well with RGB lighting and make a colorful backdrop on camera. Under a gaming chair, choose a rectangular Standard rug for smooth rolling.

Sneaker Room, Closet or Studio

In a sneaker room or dressing corner, one of the streetwear mashups ties the floor to the shoes and clothing on display. In an art studio or creative workspace, a hypebeast rug with pop-art flowers brings a gallery feel to a plain concrete or wood floor.

Printing, Durability and Safety

Every rug is printed with HD sublimation, so the ink bonds into the fibers instead of sitting on top, and the design will not crack or peel. The inks are UV-resistant to cope with normal daylight, although long direct sun is still best avoided to keep bright colors at their best. Reinforced stitched edges, including the curved edges of the shaped rugs, resist fraying and curling. The non-slip backing works on hardwood, laminate, tile, vinyl, concrete and low-pile carpet. All rugs are for indoor use only.

How to Care for Your Murakami Rug

• Vacuum on a low setting or shake the rug out for everyday cleaning.
• Blot spills right away with a damp cloth instead of rubbing.
• When it needs more, hand wash with cold water and a mild detergent and let it air dry flat.
• Avoid bleach, harsh chemicals and tumble drying, and do not iron the printed surface.
• Rotate the rug every few months so wear and light exposure stay even.

Rugs ship folded, so you may notice fold lines at first. Laid flat, the creases relax within a few days.

Shipping and Returns

Each rug is made to order. Most orders are produced in 1 to 3 business days and delivered in 5 to 12 days depending on your location, with tracking sent by email. Because every rug is printed for your order, returns are accepted within 14 days for shipping damage or a defect, not for a change of mind.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these official Takashi Murakami rugs?

No. These are original fan-inspired designs created by Padloom, inspired by the superflat pop-art style associated with Takashi Murakami. They are not affiliated with, sponsored or endorsed by the artist.

Can I use a shaped flower rug under a desk chair?

A rectangular Standard rug in 2.6 x 3.9 ft or larger is the better choice under a rolling chair, because it gives the wheels a continuous surface. The shaped flowers are best as accent rugs in open floor space.

How do I wash a Murakami flower rug?

Hand wash only. Blot spills with a damp cloth, hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent when needed and let it air dry flat.

Does the rug slip on hard floors?

No. Both quality levels have an anti-slip backing that holds on hardwood, laminate, tile, vinyl, concrete and low-pile carpet.

What sizes do the shaped flower rugs come in?

Four square sizes from 2.6 x 2.6 ft (80 x 80 cm) up to 5.2 x 5.2 ft (160 x 160 cm), with the exact measurements on each product page.
