A plump pink-gray mouse hangs in the middle of a deep plum medallion, a tiny black bird balanced on its head with wings spread wide. This Studio Ghibli round rug lays the whole scene out for the circle, with lanterns, hydrangeas and paper cranes fanning outward toward a dark green border.
On the floor, a circle behaves differently from a rectangle. It softens the hard corners of a square room, settles under a desk without fighting the furniture, and gives a reading nook a clear center. Nothing sticks out.
The Design: Lanterns, Teacups and Cranes
The artwork borrows the look of an ornate carpet and fills it with small story details. Around the central pair, eight lobed panels hold a bathhouse tower, steaming teacups, a wooden wheel, a coil of red cord with a blossom, and a wooden tub breathing steam. Puffs of pale blue cloud sit in between. Fans of Spirited Away will enjoy matching each panel to a scene.
The palette is rich but warm. Plum and forest green give depth, cream keeps the open field bright, coral-red lanterns add punch, and cornflower hydrangeas repeat in a ring around the center.
