Dragonite hovers in the center of this Pokemon round rug, one clawed hand raised in a friendly hello above a sea of clouds. The artwork is laid out for the circle: a scalloped sky window in the middle, ringed by gold-trimmed medallions and an indigo border that follows the edge all the way around.
A circle behaves differently from a rectangle on the floor. It softens the corners of a square room, gives a desk chair a natural home, and sits comfortably beside a bed where a straight-edged rug would feel stiff.
The Design: Ornamental Sky Window
This piece reads like an illuminated tile more than a poster. Dragonite floats in a watercolor sky of pale blue and cream clouds, with rolling waves below and two small lighthouses standing on rocky shores behind it. Saffron orange on the body, teal in the wings, and a warm cream belly give the figure plenty of pop against all that blue.
