Éowyn stands at the center of this Lord of the Rings round rug, sword raised and green cloak sweeping behind her as a golden sun climbs over the fields of Rohan. The artwork is laid out for the circle: one central medallion, then ring after ring of white horses, plumed helms, horns and knotwork spiraling out to the edge.
A circle changes how a room reads. It softens square corners, gives a desk chair a place to sit and fills the bare patch in front of an armchair or a bookshelf. With its ring-within-ring structure, this piece looks best where the pattern can be seen from above, such as a study, a reading nook or a bedroom floor.
The Design: Rohan in Illuminated Gold
Picture a page from an illuminated manuscript rather than a movie poster. Deep forest green fills the field, gold outlines every leaf and vine, and ivory horses leap out of the dark. In the middle, the shieldmaiden wears mail and a green cloak, and her shield carries the white horse of Rohan. Behind her stand the golden halls of Edoras and a sunburst rising over the hills.
Around that scene the Rohirrim repeat in heraldic panels: crested helmets, curled drinking horns, small gold suns and galloping horses between loops of Celtic-style knotwork.
