Product Description
Gollum crouches on a wet black rock, knees pulled up, pale eyes fixed on the gold ring he turns between his fingers. This Lord of the Rings round rug lays the whole scene out for the circle: a scalloped cave mouth frames him at the center, and a border of teal, deep green and gold wraps all the way around.
A circle suits a lonely figure like this. It softens the hard corners of a square room and gives him an island of his own in the middle of the floor, just as he sits in the middle of his underground lake. Tucked beside a bed or an armchair, it looks like a small window into the cave.
The Design: Cave Lake, Gold Rings
The artwork reads like an inked and watercolored page from an old storybook. Gollum is drawn in bone-gray and sickly green, hunched against slate rock, with stalactites hanging overhead and a shaft of pale light falling across the still water behind him. The mood is quiet and a little uneasy, which is exactly the point.
Around that central scene, a gold vine frame holds a ring of smaller pictures: a boat drifting under a full moon, pale fish turning in the dark, clusters of cave mushrooms, and four-point stars resting on rippling water.
