A winged crown rests beneath seven white stars at the heart of this Lord of the Rings round rug, with ruined watchtowers climbing the hills around it. The artwork is laid out for the circle: the crown sits dead center and everything else spreads outward in rings of midnight navy, antique gold and forest green. Quiet, heraldic, a little ominous.
A circle behaves differently from a rectangle once it hits the floor. It softens the hard corners of a study, gives a reading nook a clear center and looks right from every side of the room, since nothing in the pattern has a wrong way up. Slide it under a desk and it works as a chair mat with far more personality than a plastic sheet.
The Design: Heraldry in Concentric Rings
Instead of one single scene, this piece reads like a banner from the Third Age, laid out in rings. The outer band is forest green, threaded with gilded vine scrollwork, with a small ruined tower and an eight-pointed star repeating around the rim. Inside it, a navy ring holds gold-framed cartouches: crowns at the top and bottom, crossed blades, pale healing leaves, hooded travelers in dark cloaks, lone stars and slender scepters.
The center belongs to the crown. Silver-white and sharp against the dark ground, it rises from a hilltop while the stars hang above it and watchtowers stand among the pines on either side.
