The Lich King stretches one armored hand toward you while Frostmourne glows icy blue in the other, on this Lich King MTG playmat. Skulls are set into his breastplate and pauldrons, and his spiked crown rises above blue eyes. Icecrown Citadel's frozen spires tower behind him.
Blue in every shade, from pale ice to deep navy, fills the frame, with thin gold lines cutting through the storm. It's one of the calmest palettes we print, which makes cards very easy to read. The reaching hand on the left and the glowing eyes in the center catch the eye first.
The Art: Icecrown Watercolor
Classic watercolor technique carries the whole piece: soft blooms in the sky, crisp ink lines on the armor and spikes, and pale glazes for the ice. Ghostly spirits drift out of the clouds on the left and right. Gold accents trace the swirls of the storm. Few Lich King pieces feel this painterly, and it suits his cold, regal menace.
