A towering demon of flame and shadow fills the left side of this Lord of the Rings MTG playmat, horns and wings burning orange against the dark, while a grey-robed wizard stands his ground on a narrow stone bridge to the right. Staff raised and sword drawn, the wizard throws a burst of blue-white light straight into the fire. You shall not pass.
Fiery oranges and reds dominate the left two-thirds, balanced by cool blues and violets on the right. The clash meets right in the middle. The bridge and the darker lower edge give cards a solid place to sit.
The Art: Fire Versus Light
Loose, energetic brushwork builds the Balrog out of lava cracks and smoke, while flowing blue ribbons of magic trail behind the wizard. Gold leaf traces the energy lines and small emblems floating in the sky. Prismatic flares and floating gold flakes give the whole piece a foil-card shimmer.
