Nine inlaid panels make up this mission tile mahjong mat, a stylized peacock, a papyrus flower, a purple iris and a red tulip set in the corners around a central rose medallion, with dot-and-square geometric fillers between. Warm parchment tiles are edged in gold and set against a black-and-cream checker border strung with roses.
It reads like an Egyptian-revival tile floor. The pale panels stand out against the black frame, tiles read easily on the plainer squares, and the rose border finishes the play like an inlaid tabletop. Guests get a rich, Craftsman-meets-deco feeling right away.
