Product Description
A red Swordfish II climbs the center of this Cowboy Bebop round rug, twin flames streaming behind it, while saxophones, ringed planets and phases of the moon fill a cream field in the style of an old Persian carpet. The whole composition is laid out for the circle, with the ship on the vertical axis and a navy border of planets and stars closing the edge.
Circles behave differently on a floor than rectangles do. They soften the corners of a square room, sit neatly under a desk chair and give a reading nook a clear center. Because the ship points straight up, set the rug with its nose toward the main wall or the door and the scene reads upright as you walk in.
The Design: Jazz Among the Planets
The art borrows the language of a traditional carpet, with a central medallion, mirrored scrollwork and a framed border, then fills it with the world of the Bebop crew. Brass saxophones lean in from both sides, music notes curl out of the acanthus leaves, and small satellites and red fighter craft repeat in the corners. Ringed planets sit inside ornate cartouches left and right, with compass-star roundels above them. The palette is rust red, deep navy, teal, antique gold and warm cream, which gives the piece the look of an heirloom you might find in a spaceport bazaar. The surface is a soft plush low-pile that feels good under bare feet, and the rubber backing is non-slip, gripping wood, tile and laminate so the circle stays where you put it. The print is dye-sublimation, which means the colors are set into the fibers instead of sitting on top. Care is easy because the rug is machine washable on a gentle cold cycle, followed by air-drying. Under a desk it doubles as a chair mat for a gaming or office chair.
