Totoro stands at the heart of this Studio Ghibli round rug, grinning wide beneath a broad green leaf that he holds like an umbrella. The artwork is laid out for the circle: a lobed forest-green medallion around him, a cream field of vines and blossoms, and a ring of acorns and oak leaves at the rim.
A circle behaves differently from a rectangle. It softens the corners of a square room, tucks under a desk chair without snagging on the legs, and gives a reading nook a clear center. Totoro stays in the middle of it all, whichever way you walk in.
The Design: Woodland Carpet Medallion
Most Ghibli art is loose and watery. This piece borrows the structure of a classic woven carpet instead. Small cartouches circle the central panel, and each one holds a piece of the rainy-day story: a black umbrella at the top and bottom, leaf umbrellas, corn cobs, spinning tops, dandelion puffs. Tiny blue raindrops and soft blue clouds drift in the gaps between them.
The palette is calm and woody. Deep moss green carries the medallion and the outer border, warm cream fills the field, and thin gold outlines trace every curve. Totoro's gray fur and pale belly with its chevron marks stand out clearly against all that green. The surface is a soft plush, low-pile weave that feels gentle underfoot and keeps the artwork looking flat and clean.
