Shalltear stands at the center of this Overlord round rug, silver hair falling past her shoulders and a closed black parasol held in front of her ruffled gown. The artwork is laid out for the circle: a cream rose-vine cartouche frames her, and a ring of candelabras, crescent moons, bats and lace parasols repeats around it in four-way symmetry. Crimson, black and bone white carry the whole piece.
A circle suits this kind of symmetry. Under a desk it works as a chair mat that keeps her in view whenever you slide the chair back. It also softens a square bedroom and gives a reading corner a clear center.
The Design: Roses and Candlelight
This one reads like a gothic lolita portrait stitched into a Persian-style medallion, but drawn in soft ink-wash lines.
