Product Description
L sits crouched on bare feet in a loose white shirt, one finger twisting a strand of unruly hair, while a toybox's worth of robots, steam trains, propeller planes and dice drifts around him. This Death Note round rug lays the whole scene out for the circle: the detective at the center, a Persian-style ring of blue-gray acanthus scrollwork around him, and a border of dice and puzzle pieces running along the rim. The palette stays cream, slate blue and dusty red, with small gold stars scattered through the field.
A circle gives the scene nowhere to hide. Under a desk it works as a chair mat, so the seat glides across a clean round of artwork instead of a rectangle with dead corners. Beside a bed or in front of an armchair, it softens the straight lines of a square room and gives the eye one calm place to land.
The Design: Toybox Meets Scrollwork
The idea here is contrast. L is drawn in fine pale linework, almost the same cream as the ground, so he seems to sit inside the pattern rather than on top of it. Around him, the ornament borrows the symmetry of an old carpet, but the motifs are childhood things: tin robots in blue cartouches at the left and right, puzzle pieces in the cartouches above and below, and slim towers of dice standing like columns at the four corners of the inner field.
Red-and-white propeller planes sit on the diagonals, and two little steam locomotives face each other across the middle. Small flecks of gold and worn texture give the whole thing a faded, well-loved look.
