Guts stands at the center of this Berserk round rug, his enormous slab of a sword resting on one shoulder while a black sun burns in a storm of clouds behind him. Every element is laid out for the circle, from the scalloped crimson frame around the hero to the ring of crescent moons and blades that radiates out to the edge. The palette is charcoal, oxblood red, tarnished gold and one cold bone-white moon.
A circle behaves differently from a rectangle on the floor. It softens the corners of a square room and gives bare boards a focal point. Pulled under a desk, it works as a chair mat for a long gaming session, and beside a bed it looks like a dark shield laid down for the night.
The Design: Eclipse Under Filigree
This one is built like an illuminated manuscript. The central cartouche holds Guts in dense cross-hatched linework, his cloak torn to ribbons and his armor scratched and dull, with the eclipse ringed by dark cloud above his head. Around it, eight-fold symmetry takes over: blades point in toward the middle, armored gauntlets sit in red panels, small bonfires glow to the left and right, and tattered cloaks hang between the vines. Gold scrollwork and maple-red leaves wind through every gap. The effect is closer to a carved reliquary than a poster.
