Musashi stands at the center of this Vagabond round rug, a long blade lowered in each hand, with a broad ink enso circle arching gold and black behind his shoulders. The artwork is laid out for the circle itself. A cream medallion of bent pines and misty peaks sits inside a dark border of bamboo, maple leaves, crescent moons and crossed katana.
A circle gives a lone swordsman the right stage. Slid under a desk, it works as a chair mat that frames the seat without hard corners, and beside a bed it gives your first step of the day a quiet spot to land.
The Design: Ink, Pine and Bamboo
This piece leans on the look of brush-and-ink manga rather than bright color. The palette is charcoal, bone cream, bamboo green and a muted gold that catches the eye along the enso and the border lines. Musashi's indigo-black robe and hakama read almost like a cut-out against the pale center, while his tied-up hair and weathered stare keep the mood tense and still.
Look closer and the frame tells its own story. Four cream cartouches carry a brush, crossed katana and leaves, a seated Buddha rests on the left and right edges, and four black discs hold golden crescent moons at the diagonals. The round cut follows the artwork edge to edge, so the border stays whole instead of being trimmed off at corners. The surface is a soft plush low-pile that feels good underfoot and keeps the fine linework crisp. Underneath, a non-slip rubber backing grips hard floors such as wood, tile and laminate. When the rug gets dusty or someone spills a drink, it is machine washable on a gentle cold cycle, then air-dried. The dye-sublimation print sets the color into the fibers, so the inky blacks and gold stay put through washing.
