About This Collection

Akira Area Rugs

An Akira rug is the fastest way to put Neo-Tokyo under your feet: Kaneda's red motorcycle, Tetsuo seated on a throne of rubble, a skyline glowing in neon and a blinding blast ripping through the city. Every design in this collection is original fan-inspired artwork, made to order in five sizes from 2 x 3 ft up to 5 x 7 ft. You can pick a lightweight Standard rug with a glossy velvet surface or a thicker, softer Premium plush, and both versions have a non-slip backing that keeps the rug where you put it.

Akira's visual language of red leather, cold concrete, glowing signage and psychic chaos was made for a big, flat canvas. This page covers every Akira area rug we currently offer, explains which size suits a gaming chair or a living room, breaks down the two quality levels and shows you how to keep those bold reds sharp for years.

Akira Rug Designs in the Collection

This anime rug collection is small and focused: nine rectangular designs split between the two leads, Kaneda and Tetsuo, and the city that tears them apart. Most of the artwork leans into a cyberpunk palette of deep reds, electric blues and black, so the pieces work well together if you want two rugs in the same space, for example one under the desk and one by the bed.

Kaneda Rugs: The Bike, the Jacket and the City

Kaneda gets the most designs, which makes sense for the character whose motorcycle became one of the most copied images in anime. The Kaneda Cyberpunk Bike Rug puts the red motorcycle front and center, all sleek panels and speed, and it is the natural pick if you only want one design that says Akira at a glance. The Kaneda Capsule Cyberpunk Rug focuses on the capsule emblem from the back of his jacket, a simpler, graphic image that reads clearly even on the smallest 2 x 3 ft size.

The Kaneda Neo-Tokyo Cyberpunk Rug places him against the city at night, with towers and light trails filling the frame, so it carries more detail and looks best at 3.3 x 5 ft or larger. If you like the capsule motif but want something closer to a streetwear graphic than a movie scene, the Akira Red Pill Cyberpunk Rug turns the red pill into a bold, poster-style design that fits a minimalist room or a sneaker-shelf corner of a bedroom.

Tetsuo Shima Rugs: Power, Ruin and Mutation

Tetsuo's half of the story is darker, and his two designs reflect that. The Tetsuo Shima Throne of Ruins Rug shows him seated above the wreckage of Neo-Tokyo at the height of his power. It is a striking centerpiece for a game room or a home office, where it sits behind you on camera like a piece of framed art.

The Tetsuo Mutation Chaos Rug goes further, capturing the moment his body starts to lose control. Expect dense, organic shapes and heavy contrast, the kind of design that rewards a closer look. If you want a quieter Tetsuo piece for a bedroom, the throne design is the calmer of the two; if you want the most intense image in the collection, choose the mutation.

Neo-Tokyo, the Explosion and SOL

Three designs leave the characters aside and focus on the world itself. The Neo-Tokyo Skyline Cyberpunk Rug is a wide view of the city's towers and lights, the most decorative design in the range and an easy fit for a living room or studio apartment where you want a fan piece that still feels like home decor. The Neo-Tokyo Explosion Rug recreates the blast of light that swallows the city, a bright core spreading out against a dark skyline.

The SOL Satellite Orbital Laser Rug looks up instead of down: the orbital weapon in space, firing its beam toward the Earth. Its darker background and thin lines of light give it a sci-fi feel that also suits fans of space and tech themes, not only anime collectors. Taken together, these three designs are a good starting point if you are decorating a shared space and want something less character-focused. Sci-fi fans may also like the space-age mecha art in our Gundam rugs.

Akira Rug Sizes

All nine designs are rectangular and come in the same five sizes. Use the table below as a quick guide, then measure the spot on your floor before you order.

Size (ft) Size (cm) Best for
2 x 3 ft 60 x 90 cm Bedside, doorway, compact chair mat
2.6 x 3.9 ft 80 x 120 cm Gaming or office chair, entryway
3.3 x 5 ft 100 x 150 cm Bedroom accent, in front of a couch
4 x 6 ft 120 x 180 cm Game room, dorm, full desk area
5 x 7 ft 150 x 214 cm Living room, media wall, main area rug

For an area rug in open floor space, leave roughly 18 to 24 inches of bare floor around it so the room does not feel crowded. Under a desk chair, pick a size that keeps every wheel on the rug when you push back from the desk; for most setups that means 2.6 x 3.9 ft at minimum, or 4 x 6 ft if your desk is wide.

Standard vs Premium Akira Area Rugs

Each design is offered in two quality levels. The print process and the artwork are identical; what changes is thickness, softness and the type of backing.

  • Standard Level: a lightweight 5 mm rug with a shiny velvet surface that brings out color and fine detail, which suits the neon highlights in these designs. The faux leather non-slip backing and flatter face make it the one we recommend under a desk chair, since the wheels roll smoothly across it.
  • Premium Level: a softer, cushioned 7 mm rug with a plush surface that feels better when you are standing, sitting or lounging on the floor. It has a natural cotton anti-slip backing and is the better choice for bedrooms and living rooms.

Where to Put an Akira Rug

Gaming Setup and Desk

The Standard Akira rug in 2.6 x 3.9 ft or 4 x 6 ft is a practical upgrade for any desk: it protects hardwood from caster marks and puts Kaneda's bike or Tetsuo's throne in frame when you stream. The red and blue palette pairs naturally with RGB lighting. Our Akira mouse pads carry the same palette from the floor up to the desk.

Living Room and Media Wall

A 5 x 7 ft Neo-Tokyo Skyline or Explosion design anchors a seating area in front of the TV and gives a movie night some atmosphere. The plush Premium surface also softens footsteps and room echo.

Bedroom

Beside the bed, a 3.3 x 5 ft rug is the most common choice. The capsule and red pill designs are graphic and uncluttered, so they fit a bedroom without overwhelming it. More sleep-friendly picks sit among our bedroom rugs.

Dorm Room and Studio Apartment

Because the rugs are light and ship folded, they are easy to carry from one apartment to the next. A 4 x 6 ft rug covers the open floor of most dorm rooms and instantly makes the space feel like yours.

Printing, Durability and Safety

We print every rug with HD sublimation, a process that bonds the ink into the fibers rather than leaving it on the surface, so the artwork will not crack or peel. The inks are UV-resistant for everyday daylight, though it is still best to avoid long hours of strong direct sun. Reinforced stitched edges keep the rug from fraying or curling at the corners. The non-slip backing grips hardwood, laminate, tile, vinyl, concrete and low-pile carpet, and the inks are non-toxic and skin-safe. These rugs are made for indoor use only.

Caring for Your Akira Rug

  • Vacuum on a low setting, or take the rug outside and shake it out.
  • Blot spills straight away with a damp cloth; rubbing pushes the stain deeper.
  • For a deeper clean, hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent and let the rug air dry flat.
  • Skip bleach, harsh chemicals and tumble drying, and never iron the printed side.
  • Rotate the rug occasionally so wear and light are spread evenly.

The rug ships folded, so you may notice creases when you first unpack it. Lay it flat and they relax within a few days.

Shipping and Returns

Each Akira rug is made to order. Most orders are produced in 1 to 3 business days and arrive within 5 to 12 days depending on where you live, and you receive tracking by email. Since every rug is printed specifically for your order, returns are accepted within 14 days for shipping damage or a defect, but not for a change of mind.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these official Akira rugs?

No. These are original fan-inspired designs created by Padloom and printed on our own rugs.

What size Akira rug should I get for a gaming chair?

Go with the Standard Level in 2.6 x 3.9 ft or larger. The velvet surface lets the wheels glide, and the larger size keeps the chair on the rug when you lean back or roll away from the desk.

Can I wash an Akira rug?

Yes, by hand only. Blot small spills with a damp cloth, and when the whole rug needs it, hand wash in cold water with mild detergent and air dry flat.

Will the rug slide on a hardwood or tile floor?

No. Both levels have an anti-slip backing that holds on hardwood, laminate, tile and low-pile carpet, so you do not need tape or a separate grip pad.

Are any Akira designs available as round or shaped rugs?

Not at the moment. Every design in this collection is a rectangular rug offered in the five sizes listed above.
