Nausicaä stands with her arms open in front of a sleeping Ohmu, its blue eyes glowing through a garden of acanthus leaves and drifting dandelion seeds, with her fox-squirrel Teto perched on her shoulder. This Studio Ghibli round rug lays the whole scene out for the circle, with a golden medallion at the heart and a deep green border wrapped around the edge.
A circle behaves differently from a rectangle on the floor. It softens the hard corners of a square room, settles into a reading nook without fuss, and gives a desk or an armchair a calm focal point to sit on. Here the artwork pulls your eye inward, so the rug feels like a small valley you can set down anywhere.
The Design: Illuminated Carpet Border
The artist borrowed the logic of an old illuminated carpet and filled it with the world of the Valley of the Wind. Mustard gold and teal dominate the field, with sapphire-blue Ohmu eyes repeating in an arc behind Nausicaä, and thin glowing tendrils of light curling around her hands. The outer ring is the surprise. Gliders, wooden propellers, white feathers and weathered respirator masks alternate with clusters of dandelion puffs, so the border tells the story of the toxic jungle and the people who walk through it.
