Arrietty stands at the heart of this Studio Ghibli round rug, a long pin held like a walking staff, a clothespin clipped in her auburn hair and a sugar cube waiting at her boots. The artwork is laid out for the circle: a leafy garden fills the center, and gold-edged borders repeat thimbles, thread spools and buttons all the way around.
A circle sits differently on a floor. With no corners to square off against the furniture, it softens a rectangular room and gives a reading nook, a bedside or a spot in front of an armchair a clear, cozy center. This one rewards a long look from a chair.
The Design: Borrowed Treasures in Green
The palette is deep ivy green, warm cream and old gold, with brick-red accents in her dress, the thread spools and the buttons. Curling gold scrollwork grows through the leaves like the pattern on an illuminated page, and small white blossoms and blue bellflowers dot the vines. Round beads of dew sit on the leaves and drift through the ornament, drawn like glass marbles at borrower scale.
Four cream cartouches hold tiny red-cushioned chairs, which is the detail most people spot last. Thimbles, clothespins and pins mark the outer ring, so the whole piece reads as a garden built from things a little person would carry home.
