Haku winds through the middle of this Studio Ghibli round rug, his white scales and jade mane coiled in a slow ring over a deep blue medallion. The whole piece is laid out for the circle, with blossoms, curling waves and tiny gold stars spiraling outward in rings until a dark green border closes the edge.
A round shape softens a square room in a way no rectangle can. Slide it beneath a desk and it works as a chair mat, giving the wheels a calm patch of garden to glide over. Set it beside a bed instead, and the dragon is the first thing you see in the morning.
The Design: Dragon in Bloom
The artwork borrows the look of an illuminated manuscript. Instead of a plain backdrop, Haku sits inside a lobed navy cartouche scattered with pink blossoms and little paper birds, and his thin whiskers drift across the water like loose ribbon. Around him, a cream ground the color of old parchment carries eight smaller panels. Red arched bridges alternate with onigiri rice balls, and a purple braided hair tie sits beside each rice ball as a quiet nod to the story.
Palette matters here. Sage and emerald vines climb between the panels, blush pink flowers dot every gap, and small gold stars glint against the navy.
