Yubaba sits at her carved desk in the middle of this Studio Ghibli round rug, one red-nailed hand raised and a gold spark glittering between her fingers. Crows, paper lanterns, scrolls and jeweled rings circle her in bands of deep green and cream, and the whole piece is laid out for the circle.
A circle changes how a busy design lands on the floor. Set it under a desk and it works as a chair mat with far more personality than clear plastic. Beside a bed it softens the corners of the room. Either way, the witch ends up exactly where your eye falls.
The Design: Gilded Bathhouse Office
Think of it as an inventory of her hoard. Around the central scene, green four-lobed cartouches hold red lanterns, stern green heads, and crows that perch on the diagonals as if they are keeping watch. Between them sit scrolls tied with crimson cord, oil lamps trailing little curls of smoke, and rings set with emerald and ruby stones. The outer border is a chain of gold nuggets and gems on dark green, finished with a thin harlequin edge. The gold character on the front of her desk is the oil in the bathhouse's name, and it makes a tidy medallion at the very center. The palette stays disciplined: forest green, warm cream, crimson, burnished gold and the navy blue of her dress.
